The ceremony for the presentation of the Austrian Book Trade’s Honorary Award for Tolerance in Thought and Action to Miljenko Jergović by HVB President Benedikt Föger. Afterwards, the mayor of the City of Krems invites guests to a reception.

In cooperation with the Main Association of the Austrian Book Trade, the City of Krems and Festival Glatt&Verkehrt.

The Austrian Book Trade presents the Honorary Award for Tolerance in Thought and Action to a writer who, through his or her literary work and commitment, has shown tolerance towards neighbours who speak different languages and have different cultures, and who has therefore made a contribution to peaceful coexistence in Europe.

„The Main Association of the Austrian Book Trade (HVB) presents Miljenko Jergović with the Honorary Prize of the Austrian Book Trade for Tolerance in Thought and Action 2022. In his award-winning reports and essays, Miljenko Jergović does not shy away from putting his finger in the wounds of European society and history. In his prose, he consciously resists all political influences and does not allow himself to be co-opted by any form of nationalism. He also resists all attempts to let the past rest.”
Excerpt from the HVB press release

„Miljenko Jergović is a combative humanist and a precise chronicler of the lines of social conflict. He is a European storyteller in the best sense of the word, who is tirelessly committed – entirely in keeping with the spirit of this prize – to tolerance, openness and peace.“
