Presentation of the Honorary Award of the Austrian Book Trade for Tolerance in Thought and Action to Navid Kermani by HVB President Benedikt Föger.

Both in his academic writing as well as in his novels, reportages and speeches, Navid Kermani opens up for his readers a profound insight into little-noticed living situations and worlds of experience. His literature is in the best sense transreligious and transcultural and shows composure in the face of injustice and inhumanity. Kermani thus stands for the dignity of the individual – irrespective of one’s background or religious belief. His commitment for an open, tolerant society and his consistent work for human rights and peace make him an ideal prizewinner.
