Robert Streibel relates the history of the STALAG XVII prisoner-of-war camp. Ljuba Arnautović reads from her work. A performance by the four musicians of Baba Yaga.
Afterwards, a wine reception.

During World War II, STALAG XVII B camp was close to the village of Gneixendorf near Krems. At times, up to 66,000 prisoners of war of the most diverse nationalities were accommodated at the camp.

Ljuba Arnautović
Born in 1954 in Kursk (Soviet Union), is an Austrian writer, translator and journalist. Her second novel Junischnee (June Snow) relates the story of her father, who was in a generation of Austrian Schutzbund children; he arrived in Moscow from Vienna and only returned decades later. After the German attack on the Soviet Union, he was sent to the Gulag. Recently published: Junischnee, 2021.

Musical entertainment for this evening is provided by the Baba Yaga ensemble. The four artists’ repertoire ranges from Balkan pieces to Klezmer tunes and gypsy jazz, South American dances and a mix of some of their contemporary compositions.
