Three European writers as well as an illustrator and animator. Their four books, in their different ways, concern questions of humour and crisis.
Theresia Enzensberger’s recently published novel At Sea is about utopian promises and happiness when the world seems on the brink of disappearing.
Ivana Gibová’s Barbora, Gott & Katharsis is a punk story about a young woman’s self-discovery. She relates how she succeeds in being herself, although somebody else is living in her body.
Barbi Marković devises in her novel, Die verschissene Zeit, a pop-culture game with the Belgrade of the 1990s. At the same time, she sets up a race against time that the society of that era has obviously gambled away.
Pascale Osterwalder’s cult book Daily Soap deals with the Covid lockdowns in a tragi-comic way: she draws and writes about depressive soap dispensers.
