Mircea Cărtărescu, born 1956, is a Romanian writer. He spent numerous sojourns abroad, including in Berlin, Vienna and Florence. His literary works have won multiple awards, among others, the Austrian State Prize for European Literature, Thomas Mann Prize and Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding.
